I’ve always been attracted to the allure of flowers and their natural beauty. Their colours, shapes, scent, emotional attachment and the memories they evoke. This was the main inspiration for this series of works and I wanted to capture this in a unique way.
I’ve had this concept to create artworks focused around flowers and their captivation for at least two years.
My vision for this series began when I started to look closely, and in detail at the intricate petals of flowers. The colours, textures and scale all intrigued me. I wanted to somehow combine my fine arts skills of painting and colour balance with my graphic design skills of composition, scale, styling and proportions.
I started by choosing flowers that had beautifully shaped petals, some were large and elegant like the magnolias and others were small and petite like the hydrangeas. Others were textured and bright like the orchids. I then styled the flowers in interesting compositions and photographed them.
Once photographed I started to paint with watercolour, acrylic and inks the shapes of the flowers and their petals. Next I scanned in these paintings and combined them in photoshop creating layers of texture to create the final art.
